The Scale-Ready Technology Blueprint

The five-stage blueprint for building a technology function that drives, rather than restricts, your journey to £100M+ ARR.

    Foundation & Alignment

    Architecture for Growth

  3. 03

  5. 05

    Operational Excellence & Resilience

Stage 01

Foundation & Alignment

Problem addressed

Engineering objectives are disconnected from commercial reality. Founders and the technology team are optimising for different things, and nobody can say with confidence what the next two quarters of investment should actually achieve.

What happens

A structured diagnostic of platform, team, delivery and commercial trajectory. Working sessions with founders, leadership and the board to translate the business plan into a technology operating thesis — what to invest in, what to defer, and where the real risks sit.

Output / result

A written technology operating thesis, a prioritised 12-month roadmap aligned to commercial OKRs, and a board-grade narrative every stakeholder can defend.

Stage 02

Architecture for Growth

Problem addressed

The platform that got you to £10M will not get you to £100M. Hidden coupling, brittle integrations and unscaled data models start to manifest as customer-facing incidents and missed peak trading.

What happens

Architecture review against the next two orders of magnitude of load, data and product complexity. Targeted refactors and decoupling work prioritised by commercial risk — not by engineering preference.

Output / result

A target architecture documented in plain English, a sequenced migration plan with effort and risk explicit, and the immediate first wave of changes shipped under direct leadership.

Stage 03

Team & Talent Scaling Engine

Problem addressed

You are hiring engineers and shipping less. Senior talent will not join, or joins and leaves. The leadership layer beneath the founders is either missing or under-equipped for the next stage.

What happens

Organisational design rebuilt around the operating thesis — squad boundaries, leadership layer, hiring loop, levelling, compensation and onboarding. Direct involvement in senior hires, with rigorous interview design and reference taking.

Output / result

A defensible org chart, a hiring loop that converts senior candidates at predictable rates, and a leadership bench capable of running the function after the engagement ends.

Stage 04

High-Velocity Delivery System

Problem addressed

Delivery has become unpredictable. Estimates are unreliable, scope creeps silently, and the business has quietly stopped believing what engineering says it will ship.

What happens

Rebuild the delivery rituals from product discovery through to production. Lightweight planning, ruthless prioritisation, continuous deployment, and observability that lets the team see — and own — the impact of what they ship.

Output / result

A delivery cadence the business actually trusts, measurable lead time and deployment frequency, and a culture of shipping that compounds rather than decays as the team grows.

Stage 05

Operational Excellence & Resilience

Problem addressed

Peak trading, security incidents and compliance demands surface every weakness at the worst possible moment. The team is reactive, on-call is broken, and the leadership is one bad weekend from a crisis.

What happens

Embed the operating disciplines that make scale boring — incident response, SLOs, on-call rotations, security posture, data protection and supplier risk. Run game days against the failure modes you actually have, not the ones in a textbook.

Output / result

Demonstrable resilience under peak load, an audit-ready security and compliance posture, and a team that treats reliability as a product feature rather than a fire to be fought.
